My sweet girl is 4 and that wraps up the kids birthday's until next September. Aliyah loves her brothers and keeps trying to give all her babies to the Goodwill! She'd prefer to build a fort with Ollie and Eli or zoom around the house on her tricycle chasing Sammy than snuggling her dolls but she does love a good tea party and she is the DARLING of my heart. Thank you Jesus for Aliyah.

I can't believe my youngest is 2! It's bittersweet. I love having a 2 year old. Sammy is beyond sweet and brings such joy to our home. His favorite activities are keeping up with his older siblings, zooming around the house on his firetruck and emptying out the fridge. God has blessed me and I AM THANKFUL.

I was trying to be one of "those people" this month but I failed and I can accept that. My purpose for this blog is to write down some memories for my kids because the years are passing all too quickly. So here's my memory for the week: Ollie and Eli both received good report cards a few days ago. As a reward I told them we could stop for a treat on the way home from school. Ollie wanted to stop at Starbucks for a vanilla steamer and Eli wanted to stop at Burger King for a hamburger. Interesting choices aren't they? I love you boys and I am one PROUD Mom. Thanks for being my kids!

But I am so thankful that we are here and that God has blessed us with this great BIG house! There are 3 "kid" bedrooms and right now I have Ollie and Sam sharing the big room and Eli and Aliyah each in their own rooms and it has been great. The first night Sammy had a hard time falling asleep but I think it was more because of the excitement of the day and his late bedtime than his new room. Eli didn't want to sleep alone so he went to Aliyah's room and shared her toddler size bed! The second night Sam slept great and Aliyah and Eli realized they needed more room so they slept in Eli's full size bed. The third night everyone slept in their own room and bed. It's starting to feel like home and I'm so thankful for everyone's prayers and help! Especially my small group at church. We were blessed by The O'Neills on Monday night with 2 delicious pizzas and then blessed again on Tuesday night by The Curtis Family with some yummy stew and other goodies! We love you guys! Thank you so much for making our first week in this house a little bit smoother.

In August John took Ollie, Eli and Koji camping and crabbing at the Oregon coast. They caught some crab and then got to eat them right there on the dock freshly steamed! This is my favorite picture from the trip. Can you tell that Ollie likes his marshmallows a bit charred?

I'm tired and it's 10:18 and I've been trying to be in bed my 9:30 so I can read. And I'm a bit overwhelmed with trying to pack up the house and all that so today I'm resorting to the writing prompt which is:
Would you rather be wealthy and ugly, wise and sickly, or beautiful and stupid?
I'm going to have to turn to the living word of God for this one and my answer is... none of the above. I'm thankful for who I am at this moment in time. I Timothy 6:6 But godliness with contentment is great gain.
All I can do right now is praise the Lord that I don't even want to think about the question but instead fall into bed with joy in my heart and thanksgiving on my tongue. His grace is sufficient for me.

We are moving in 3 days to Steven Court. Should I change the name of my blog to Life on Steven Court? Sounds lame to me but we won't be living life on Ollie Lane anymore :( I'm only sad because not many folks get to live on a street named for their firstborn son. I guess if I birth another boy I'll have to name him Steven and then people will be right when they ask, "Did you name your kid after the street you live on?"

Ollie's definition of a proverb - Homeschooling story #1

The last several days Ollie's Social Studies lessons have been about Proverbs. As I was trying to explain to him what a proverb is I said, think of something that Dad says all the time. I was hoping he would come up with something like this "Turn off that light. Do you think we own the electric company?" Instead, the "proverb" he came up with was "QUIET". The way he said it even sounded like John. It was so funny I couldn't stop laughing for about 3 minutes. Of course, he got the giggles because I thought what he had said was funny so then we just called it a day.

Aliyah likes sunglasses

I don't know why but Aliyah really likes sunglasses. She was playing in Ollie and Eli's room this afternoon for quite some time very quietly. I started down the hallway to check on her (because we all know that quiet usually means trouble) and found her coming towards the living room clutching 2 pairs of sunglasses with a victorious grin on her face. It was just precious! I don't know how she rooted through their mess of toys and managed to come up with not just 1 but 2 pairs but she did it and she was quite proud of herself. One pair belongs to Mr. Potato Head and the other pair is hers.

I really don't think I'm a good writer. Anything of importance goes through my sister who is much better with words. But I really want to share a verse I love from Daniel. I've been reading Daniel because of a great conversation I had with some of my friends. Anyway, if you haven't read it lately I would highly recommend it. I especially enjoyed chapter 3. I'm praying for faith like Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego. Verses 17-18. She's 4 months old. I can't believe it. Some days I just want time to stop. She's growing way too quickly! Ollie takes all the awards for weight gain as an infant. At 4 months he was a whopping 19 lbs 6 oz. Eli was 13 lbs 4 oz and Aliyah's 12 lbs 13 oz. She's just perfect. She's between the 40th and 50th percentile for all categories and I'M SO BLESSED TO BE HER MOMMY. THANK YOU LORD!

Mastitis and Eli's Discovery

Yesterday I spent a good portion of the day at Urgent Care to get a prescription for mastitis which I had correctly self diagnosed. Too bad I couldn't also write my own prescription and save 3 hours in Urgent Care with all kinds of germs floating around. Because of my long wait Eli didn't get down for his nap until 2:00. That night he didn't fall asleep until 10:00 which is rather late for him. His bedtime is 8:00 and is usually asleep by 8:30 or 9:00 at the very latest. I thought it was because of his late nap. When he finally dozed off and I went in to cover him up I discovered he had finally mastered the sticker book and stuck a good 2-3 dozen stickers all over his bedspread and himself. He was making himself stay awake so he could keep on sticking! Note to self: Must keep all toys and sticker books far away from Eli's bed before he lays down to sleep.

Since Aliyah was so little we are supposed to take her in yet again on Monday to have a weight check. However, I'm disgusted that just to put her on the Dr.'s scale we have to pay a $30 co-pay. So, we've just been weighing her on our digital kitchen scale which is good up to 10 lbs. So far we have saved $60 and she is gaining really well. Yesterday she was 6 lbs 5.5 oz - that's about a 1 1/2 ounce per day gain since she was last at the Doctor's office.

This morning Ollie wanted to go back to my parents house to bring home his big play dough set. I told him we could go as soon as we finished cleaning the living room and putting away all his new stuff that we had already brought home. Aliyah's Birthday - December 2nd

The day will actually be Sunday. That's when I will be 35 weeks and 0 days. I didn't understand the significance of that until yesterday when I met a new Dr. He said any babies born before 35 weeks automatically have to go spend time in NICU. If she's born after 35 weeks there is a chance she can stay with me in my room and be home in just a few days. This is the last chance I will get to be on the computer until I'm home sometime next week. Please pray for a safe delivery for baby and me. My dear pastor loaned me his laptop for the last few days and it has been a lovely break from the TV, my books, my cross stitch and my sudoku puzzles! Thanks Ron.

Stuck in the hospital

Last Friday (11/23) at 4am my water broke. I got up after crying for a few minutes (I was 1 day shy of 34 weeks) and took a shower and then worked on my bible study for a bit. Then I packed my bag for the hospital, because of course at not even 34 weeks I was not ready to go to the hospital. John got up around 6 and took a shower and I walked next door to wake up my parents. Praise God that my parents live next door at this phase in my life. We left around 7 to go to the Silverton Hospital and when we were almost there I realized I was really hungry and knowing they might not let me eat we stopped for breakfast. Once we got to the hospital it took a good 45 minutes to an hour before the Dr. was available to check me out. Guess what - he couldn't find ANY indication that my water had broken and he sent me home! I was relieved to be wrong but I wasn't convinced that he was right. It was hard to accept his explanation that the baby kicked my bladder or something. We got home around 10:30 and I had a piece of pumpkin pie and did some laundry. I walked next door to check on the boys and water started leaking down my legs. So, I called the Dr. and he said sorry you have to come back. My second visit definitely revealed my water was broken. I was transported to St. Vincent in Portland (my first ambulance ride) and here I sit! Silverton will only deliver if you are at least 35 weeks. I'm very glad to be at this hospital. The Doctors are excellent and they are prepared for any emergency at a moments notice. I really expected to go into labor on my own within a day or two but since that hasn't happened it probably won't. So, I will be induced on Saturday (12/1) if nothing happens before then. I'm being watched carefully for signs of infection or any stress on the baby. She is in fine shape and shouldn't have to remain in the hospital too long after delivery and her name is Aliyah. I'm probably going to call her Ali and my sister in law said I'm going to be the most tongue tied mom around with an Ollie, Eli and Ali! I'm so blessed. I praise God that he has provided for me in every way. My boys are being well taken care of by my parents and John's Mom. I'm in the best hospital possible for my situation and there is still a possibility I will be able to VBAC. At this point in gestation (35 weeks) the doctors anticipate no real problems for the baby and practically consider her term since they deal with so many babies much more premature than this. Stay tuned for a birth announcement in the next few days! My prayer for the week has been Phil 4:6 Do not be anxious about anything but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.

Tonight we had a little reunion of sorts at my friends house. It's 5 of us that went to church together in Junior High and we manage to get together several times a year. (We'd like it to be 6 of us but 1 moved to Alaska!) We decided to have a little costume party for the kids and our great hostess fed us Thai food that was delicious and the kids were all content with their peanut butter and jelly on fresh Great Harvest bread! Between the 5 of us we've got 15 kids! Here are a few pictures of 14 of them. (One was helping his Grandpa move.)

I generally like it on the cool side but that was too cold even for me. So, I set up my heater schedule before bed and will wake up to a nice 68.

It was a nice day. The sun was shining and we had a bit of reprieve from all the rain that's been falling. About 3:45 John asked Ollie if he wanted to go fishing. Ollie said, "No not today." So, John decided to take Eli. Of course, at the last minute Ollie decided he didn't want to be left out. This is the first time John has taken both boys fishing by himself. They were gone about 2 hours and came home wet, muddy, cold and with 4 trout. They had a great time!

Monday ~ Chicken tenders, Grandma's Corn Chowder, salad and biscuits (I added the chicken tenders to this meal because my hubby doesn't particularly like soup!)
Tuesday ~ Baked ziti, bread sticks, salad
Wednesday ~ Beef Stew and bread
Thursday ~ Hamburgers or veggie burgers, fries, carrot & celery sticks
Friday ~ Bean burritos
Saturday ~ Family dinner at Mom's
Sunday ~ leftovers or eat out
